The Merchant Exploration traces the story of the Marwari merchants who helped shape Bikaner into one of the great trading centres of the desert. Positioned along the caravan routes that connected Western and Central Asia with the Indian subcontinent, the city prospered through commerce…and with prosperity came an extraordinary flowering of architecture, art and patronage.

The merchants of Bikaner expressed their success not through ostentation alone but through craftsmanship of remarkable sophistication. Ornate havelis, intricately carved façades, frescoed courtyards and temples fashioned from red sandstone stand as enduring reminders of an age when trade and culture travelled hand in hand.

Accompanied by one of our storytellers, this exploration offers a glimpse into the lives, ambitions and aesthetic sensibilities of the merchant families who left an indelible mark upon the city. The experience concludes, as all good Marwari stories should, around the table with our signature Marwari Thali.
